Bump on the Road to Recovery

Gin, Be sure to have those coping mechanisms ready for your cold turkey quit. Slips happen and if you learn from them, they can strengthen your resolve. Keep close. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Ah Gin, I'm sorry that you feel so down. You have an arsenal of people, tools and support all around you to help you do this so please know that you are not alone. Think about the last few times you went back to smoking and what caused it. What will you do differently this time? (You don't have to answer that but mull it over) Knowledge is power and the more ready and prepared you feel, the stronger you'll be when you hit those bumps. You don't seem convinced that you can do this and you'll prove yourself right every time if you believe that. There is nothing special about those of us that have quit. We all did it one hour, one day at a time. We all put our pants on one leg at a time - except maybe Mr. Ed, Mercy and Bear, they've got a lot of legs. Picture this like a road trip, you wouldn't just leave the house with your keys and not have any kind of plan. Same thing here and you've got people (and animals) from all over the world willing to help you. Are you ready? I'm feeling pretty depressed right now. Hate myself for faltering. It's a weird thing this addiction. First you think you've got it licked and then it hits you. So far I've been doing pretty good...I'm resolved on staying quit. It's not worth going back to it again. Maybe it's not the patch to blame eh? It's me. But I'm not going back on the patch...I'm going to do it cold turkey. No point in prolonging the agony. I hope I can continue on on my path. Got to take it one day at a time. I'm definitely not giving up because I slipped. It's a lesson well learned I can tell you. A friend of mine told me that I expressed freedom in the expression fo my face since I quit and that's a good feeling. I didn't know it could be picked up like that. I'm going to stick to my guns this time. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Unfortunately, I had a slip but in a way it's good because I found the taste asnd smell of the cigarette disgusting. I'm back on track and this time I'm doing it without the patch. Something tells me that the patch was acting as a trigger for me to smoke. I'm flushing my system of all the nicotine. I don't want any of it in my system. I prayed to God to help me pass by the cravings without a hitch. I've set in my mind to keep on going on my 11th day. I have a positive attitude about it all and I hope it will serve me right. Has anybody found the patch to act as a trigger?
